Graphic design as a profession is a juggling act. You work to create something that incorporates your client’s specifications as well your own design sensibilities. I think these things makes one a good communication, curiosity, passion, ability to take criticism, problem-solving, patience, and reliability. There are times client would say he or she doesn't like the design and you may have to start afresh and lot more.
What makes one a good graphics designer??

You need two basic skills, one, knowledge about the graphic design software you want to use (photoshop, for example), and two, a natural talent for drawing, illustration, and art. If you have skills and expertise in these two things, you can become a good graphic designer.

Skill and talent. First you need to know how to do it. You can't just saying you're a graphic designer and be one. It takes usually years of experience to make quality work, at least for most people.

What makes one a good designer is skill. Whenever your have that graphic design from wherever you acquire it from, you have made some step towards being one.

Secondly is consistency, if you do diverse designs over and over again, there is no ways you skills won't improve.

Thirdly is satisfaction, in every design you do for a client, try and do it to his or her satisfaction while still maintaining professionalism in the work delivered. There are still some yet to be spoken of though.
